Our teeth are composed of three main parts: enamel, dentin, and nerves. Enamel surrounds the outer portion of our teeth. Below our enamel is dentin. And below our dentin is tissue filled with highly sensitive nerves. It’s important to take care of your teeth because none of these layers can regenerate.
If you experience sensitive teeth, you know how painful it can be. Besides that, it can make it so you aren’t able to enjoy certain types of foods. Teeth sensitivity isn’t caused by dentin but the nerves on the inside of our teeth. When the enamel of our teeth is worn away, it exposes the dentin. Unlike enamel, dentin is porous and certain substance can pass through it. If these substances reach the nerves in your tooth, it can be excruciating. In most cases, teeth sensitivity isn’t that big of a deal.
How Do You Cure Sensitive Teeth
Because the enamel of our teeth can’t be regenerated, we need to use other methods to cure sensitive teeth. What your teeth are sensitive can tell us a lot about why you have sensitivities. Sensitivity due to temperature, sweet foods, hard foods, acidic foods, and salty foods can all clue us in on why you have sensitivity. Most people experience sensitive teeth due to worn enamel. If this is your case, we can provide different treatment options.
Typically, people with sensitive teeth can find relief by utilizing a sensitivity toothpaste and mouthwash. These products contain chemicals that strengthen your enamel and make dentin less porous. However, in extreme cases of sensitivity, these products don’t work. We can still help you though. When you come to our office with a sensitive tooth problem, we will first examine why you’re having sensitivity. Afterwards, we can begin treatment. If you have sensitive teeth, please contact our office to schedule a consultation.
