An x-ray is a simple test done to view your body’s internal organs. This uses electromagnetic waves which are a form of radiation. The pictures shown when an x-ray is conducted are in white and black. This is due to different absorption of waves by different tissues. High density causes the parts to appear white while the lighter ones appear black. Bones and teeth have high calcium levels and so they appear white in x-rays while gums and other tissues appear black. There are different types of x-rays, one of them being the dental x-ray.

The Importance of Having A Dental X-ray Every Year

X-rays are able to show things that cannot be seen during a physical examination. Therefore, it is important for you to have a dental x-ray every year as it helps the dentist to diagnose oral infections, gum disease, cavities, some tumors and even check jaw placement early before the conditions become severe. In most cases tooth decay attacks between the teeth and this is hard to notice without conducting an x-ray. There is no need for alarm because the advancement in technology has reduced the amount of radiation you are exposed to.

How Are X-rays Conducted

Our dentists conduct x-rays based on several factors. Both adults and children are safe to undergo the test but children need tests more often to monitor their oral development. If you have an oral condition, have had an oral disease before or symptoms of an oral disease, you might also have to undergo several tests.

If you have problems with your oral health or you would like to take care of your dental health in a better way, you should consider having dental x-rays at least once every year. Visit our clinic for professional x-rays and proper diagnosis.
